The Elms Cottage

The Elms Cottage is a two bedroom 19th century sandstone house providing accommodation for up to five people. Not strictly speaking a cottage, it is really an annexe adjoining the main house, The Elms. Children are welcome. A cot, with bedding, is available on request.

The Elms is a unique Grade II listed property. It enjoys a beautiful location being set in about 9 acres of park-like grounds with many mature trees. Although situated in the Upper High Street, once the main gates are closed be transported to a green oasis with a wealth of wildlife (red kites, woodpeckers, pheasants to name but a few), a world away from the busy town centre. Within the grounds are also situated a coach house, stable block and barn (all visible from the cottage).

The earliest part of The Elms (of which the cottage forms a part) was built in about the 1830s in late classical style.

The majority of the gardens and field are private but guests will have access to a small sunny courtyard adjoining the cottage.

Fans of Midsomer Murders may be aware that Thame has been used in several of the episodes. The Elms has featured in two of these: recently the greenhouse in Vixen's Run and in 2000 the main house played the part of the vicarage in The Garden of Death.

Thame

The historic market town of Thame is an excellent base to explore Oxford and the Cotswolds. London is also easily reached in about an hour by train from the railway station at Haddenham (two miles from Thame). Thame itself is steeped in history and well worth exploring.

There are many historical figures connected with Thame such as John Hampden who died in Thame during the English Civil War.

A street market is still held in the Upper High Street every Tuesday selling a wide selection of goods from clothes to fruit & vegetables.

There are many restaurants and take-aways within a short walk from The Elms Cottage including Chinese, Thai, Indian and a wide variety of other superb venues.

Thame has excellent shopping facilities with many independent shops as well as Waitrose and Co-op supermarkets.

Thame has its own Theatre in Nelson Street, just around the corner. There are also good theatres in Oxford and High Wycombe and cinemas in Oxford, Aylesbury and High Wycombe.

For the more energetic there is the Phoenix Trail for cyclists and walkers which follows part of the former railway track from Thame to Princes Risborough.

The National Trust has many beautiful houses within a short drive eg Waddesdon Manor, Claydon House & Cliveden.
